Official presentation of the Vietnamese edition of famous Armenian writer Khachik Dashtents' novel "Call of the Ploughmen" took place in the Hanoi Book Street, on December 9, 2023.
The book presentation was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to Vietnam in the framework of the events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Hanoi.
Vahram Kazhoyan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia in his opening remarks speech presented biographical data of Khachik Dashtents, and made a brief historical overview of the events described in the novel and the lives and destinies of the main characters.
Ambassador Kazhoyan thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia for providing the necessary support and funding, to the team of translators Nguyen Van Chien, Nguyen Ngoc Hung, Le Doc Mon and Tran Bich Tho for the huge and high-quality work they did for the Vietnamese publication of the book, editor Mrs. Song Dai for editing and making all corrections of the Embassy, and Assistant of the Ambassador Ms. Tam Nguyen for the final work on the Vietnamese text.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia expressed special gratitude to Mrs. Anahit Dashtents Turabian, the daughter of Khachik Dashtents, without whose full support the implementation of this important large-scale work would not have been possible.
Afterwards, the translators of the book Mr. Nguyễn Văn Chiến, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung, Mr. Le Duc Man and Ms. Tran Bich Tho, director of Van Hoc Publishing House Ms. Ngo Thu Phuong, literary critic Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam and Mr. Huu Viet, representing Viet Nam Writers' Association, delivered their speeches.
The speakers, in their remarks, referred to the national liberation struggle of the Armenian people, presented in the novel, drawing parallels with the national liberation movement of the Vietnamese people and pointing out to many similarities between the two nations’ national liberation movements. The speakers also emphasized that Khachik Dashtents' novel "Call of the Ploughmen" includes many other stories, legends, fairy tales, poems and songs, thus making the novel one of the masterpieces of the Armenian literature and folklore.
Literary critic Nguyen Hoai Nam, analyzing in detail the "Call of the Ploughmen" drew parallels with the masterpieces of world literature and ranked it on the same level as such works of world literature, as Lev Tolstoy’s novel "War and Peace" and Mikhail Sholokhov’s "The Silent Don".
Ms. Ngo Thu Phuong, director of the Van Hoc ("Literature") Publishing House, presented the meticulous work of the publishing house's staff, and also referred to the difficulties they encountered during the editing and preparation for the printing of the final version of the book.
Mr. Huu Viet, Deputy Director of the Foreign Relations Department of the Viet Nam Writers' Association, presented interesting details from the lives of the heroes of the novel and during the Armenian liberation struggle, in the Soviet Armenia and in Diaspora. He too, emphasized the similarities of the national-liberation struggles of the Armenian and Vietnamese peoples, which both Armenian and Vietnamese writers and poets have addressed in their literary and artistic works.
The representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, the Department of Foreign Relations of the Viet Nam Writers' Union, the Vietnam Friendship Union Organization, leaders and members of the Viet Nam-Armenia Friendship Association, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam Gennady Bezdetko with his spouse and other high-ranking officials, as well as representatives of accredited diplomatic missions in Viet Nam, famous Vietnamese poet and translator Nguyen Chi Hoa, poet Luong Ngoc Anh, writer and poet Dao Quoc Vinh, poet Phan Hoang, editor of the "Literature" newspaper of the Viet Nam Writers' Union Thanh Binh, many reporters and other guests attended the official presentation of the Vietnamese edition of Khachik Dashtents' novel "Call of the Ploughmen".
